Uluwatu Hidden Gems: 5 Secret Beaches Away from the Crowds

Bali Nusa Transport

Uluwatu is famous for its world-class surf and iconic temple, but as tourism grows, the main beaches can get crowded. If you're willing to go off the beaten path (and climb a few stairs), Uluwatu still hides pristine coves where the only footprints in the sand might be your own. Here are our top 'hidden' picks for your next private tour.

1. Thomas Beach: The Quiet Alternative

Located just a few minutes from Padang Padang, Thomas Beach is surprisingly overlooked. It features a long stretch of white sand and crystal-clear water perfect for swimming. To reach it, you'll walk down a set of stairs near the main road. At the bottom, you'll find a few small 'warungs' selling cold coconuts and renting umbrellas.
It’s the perfect place for a quiet morning before the sun gets too hot. Unlike its more famous neighbors, Thomas Beach offers a sense of space and tranquility that is getting harder to find in South Bali.
2. Nyang Nyang: The Wild Frontier

Nyang Nyang is one of Bali’s longest and most dramatic beaches. To reach it, you need to hike down a steep cliff path (about 15-20 minutes). The reward is a 1.5km stretch of raw, untouched coastline. It's famous for its shipwreck remains and the sense of isolated paradise. The path can be slippery, so wear decent shoes!
Because of the hike involved, Nyang Nyang remains largely empty. It’s ideal for long walks and feeling like a true explorer. There are no lifeguards here, so be extremely careful with the currents if you decide to dip your toes in.
3. Green Bowl: The Emerald Cove

Green Bowl is a tiny, stunning cove named after the emerald-colored water and the seaweed-covered rocks that appear at low tide. It is famous for its hundreds of steep concrete stairs (around 300+) and the large limestone caves on the beach that provide natural shade from the midday sun.
The caves are also home to thousands of bats, which you can see hanging from the ceiling during the day. It’s a favorite among local surfers and those looking for a truly unique beach experience. Arrive at low tide to enjoy the sandy shore, as the beach almost disappears during high tide.
